![]() ![]() The redesigned Magic Keyboard is expected to arrive alongside the next-generation iPad Pro models next year, which Gurman says will introduce "fundamental changes" and be the first major update to the product since 2018, adding the M3 Apple silicon chip, OLED displays, and slightly larger 11- and 13-inch size options. Gurman mused that the redesign using more premium materials could lead Apple to raise the accessory's $299 price point. The exterior shell of the keyboard will retain the silicone cover material used on the current model and a single USB-C port. Apple purportedly hopes that the changes will address criticisms of the current model. The area around the keyboard itself will apparently be made of aluminum, resembling the top case of MacBooks, to provide a sturdier structure. Now, in the latest edition of his "Power On" newsletter, Gurman reveals additional information about the extensive redesign of the accessory. Now tap and hold on the little keyboard icon in the bottom right corner of the iPad keyboard. Tap and drag on the keyboard icon to move the iPad keyboard up or down on the screen. If you prefer to type with your thumbs like you do on your iPhone, you can split your iPad keyboard. This lets you type like you’re used to while holding your iPad and works in both landscape and portrait views.ģ) When the small menu appears, slide your finger to Split. You will then see the keyboard split the keys evenly on the left and right of your screen. You can also hold the Keyboard button to move the keyboard up or down if you like. If you want to remove the split, you can merge your keyboard in two ways. Merging the iPad keyboard: method oneĢ) When the small menu appears, slide your finger to Merge. Alternatively, you can select Dock and Merge to put it back in one piece at the bottom of your screen. Merging the iPad keyboard: method twoĢ) Release the Keyboard button. The button you tapped/clicked to undock it will change to indicate the keyboard has been undocked and tapping this new button will dock it to the bottom of. On the on-screen keyboard tap the little rectangle-in-rectangle button next to the close button. This will both merge and dock your keyboard to its original spot. Tap the keyboard icon in the system tray. These may seem like simple tips to some, but many aren’t aware of the flexibility of the iPad keyboard.
